MANGALURU: Deputy leader of the opposition and Mangalore MLA U T Khader has appealed to the people of the state to foil all attempts of communal forces that are planning to disrupt harmony in the society.

The Congress leader asked people to be patient, and not to get provoked by any attempts that are aimed at disrupting harmony. He told the media here on Monday, that the BJP is trying to divert the attention of the people from the real issues affecting the state, by supporting such untoward incidents.

“Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai is tight-lipped on issues that are affecting the harmony in society. The government should take stringent action against those irrespective of caste, creed and religion, who are engaged in provoking any community,” Khader demanded.

The CM should have instilled confidence among people of the state, by directing the police to take stern action against communal elements, he said, adding that 95% of the people in the state want to live in peace, and they do not support activities that affect the secular fabric of the nation.

Referring to the incident of a Hindu outfit vandalising the stalls owned by Muslim merchants in Dharward, Khader said, “Such incidents will backfire on the BJP government.”
