An improvised explosive device (IED) was found on Saturday by the security forces near the highway and an Army camp in Rajouri district of J&K. The IED weighing 5 kg was defused successfully by the Army.
The Rajouri District Police in a statement said, “The security forces foiled a terror plot by recovering an Improvised Explosive Device on Rajouri Gurdan road which was then taken to a safer location and destroyed.”
According to the Jammu and Kashmir police, they received credible input that some suspicious movement had taken place in Gurdan Chawa village on Rajouri Gurdan Road.
Following that, teams from the Army and Special Operations Group of Police launched a joint cordon-and-search-operation in the area in the early morning hours on Saturday.
During the search operation, a suspicious object was found on the road which turned out to be an IED.
The bomb squad took the material in its possession for destruction as per the SOPs and through a controlled explosion, destroyed the IED in a safe location.
The police are further investigating the matter.
