Jammu and Kashmir recorded 12 fresh Covid cases in a day taking the infection tally to 4,53,941 while no death due to the disease was reported, officials said on Sunday.

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 127 new coronavirus positive cases, taking its tally to 78,75,845, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,827 as nobody succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, a health official said.

Karnataka on Sunday recorded 54 fresh COVID-19 cases and zero fatality, taking the total infection to 39,46,369 and the deaths to 40,057 till date, the State Health Department said. Of the total infections, Bengaluru urban district saw 49 while Dharwad reported two infections and one each in Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru and Raichur.

Telangana on Sunday recorded 11 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 7,91,630 so far, a bulletin said. No deaths due to the virus were reported today and the total fatalities stand at 4,111 till date, it said.

Gujarat reported 15 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking its tally to 12,24,157, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,942, a health department official said.

Single-day recoveries outnumbered new COVID-19 cases in Odisha on Sunday as 19 people were cured of the disease and 10 more tested positive for the infection, a health department bulletin said.

The massive surge of Covid-19 cases in Shanghai city has hit China’s shipbuilding industry, including the launch of the third aircraft carrier scheduled for April 23.

On Saturday, the city logged 461 cases with a positivity rate of 5.33 per cent, while two deaths were also reported. On Friday, Delhi had recorded 366 cases.

The Covid-19 positivity rate in the national capital has jumped from 0.5 per cent to 5.33 per cent in two weeks.

With the Covid-19 positivity rate in Delhi breaching the five per cent-mark again, doctors on Sunday said people developing coronavirus-like symptoms should get themselves tested and authorities should make the wearing of masks mandatory to help check the spread of infection.

Around 19% residents of Delhi-NCR responding to a survey revealed they have one or more individuals in their close network who has had Covid in the last 15 days.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday claimed that 40 lakh Indians died during the coronavirus pandemic due to the government’s “negligence” and once again demanded that all families of the deceased be given Rs four lakh compensation each.

The other measures being taken by the schools include closing a particular classroom when someone tests positive and advising parents to not send their kids without masks.

Schools across Delhi-NCR have sprung into action following a spike in Covid cases and are taking various measures, including frequent sanitisation, to restrict the spread of the virus to a minimum and thus avoid shutdown of the campus.

As many as 3,65,118 tests for Covid detection have been conducted in India in the last 24 hours.

With the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.31%, the weekly positivity rate at present is 0.27%, the government said.
