Prashant Kishor has become a big brand in the country, Rajasthan Chief Minister (CM) Ashok Gehlot said after he landed in Delhi to attend the meeting of a committee constituted by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to make the party ready for the next elections.

The meeting was part of the deliberations being held to evolve a long-term strategy for the Congress and discuss the plan presented by Prashant Kishor.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and Chhatisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, Ambika Soni and Mukul Wasnik were present at the meeting.

Gehlot said, “Prashant Kishor has become a big brand in the country. He has experience of working in various states. He is a professional.”

He added that Prashant is trying to bring all stakeholders in Opposition together, keeping the 2024 polls in mind.

Panel discussion

The meeting started around 12 pm on Wednesday.

After the five-hour long meeting, Congress’ communication department head Randeep Surjewala, for the first time, officially spilled the beans about the meetings and Prashant Kishor.

Surjewala said, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi constituted a short committee to look at the various suggestions given by Prashant Kishor and also by certain very experienced people in the party.”

Asked about the suggestions made by Prashant, Surjewala replied, “Those suggestions include the ways and means to strengthen the Congress organization. They include gearing up the Congress for the upcoming elections. Also, to meet the aspirations of the people of India The committee has been holding deliberations for the last three days on various suggestions that were given by Prashant Kishor. Because our two CMs are very experienced, that’s why the committee thought it fit to request them to come today and join the deliberations and give their suggestions.”

When asked, till when these meetings would continue, Surjewala replied, “We had fruitful rounds of deliberations in three days and we proposed to conclude these deliberations in the next 48-72 hours.”

A large chunk of leaders in Congress want Prashant Kishor to join the party.

When asked, Surjewala replied, “The aim or adhikarkshtra of this committee constituted by the Congress President is not about getting a particular person to join the party but to strengthen the party and prepare for elections.”

According to sources, Prashant Kishor in the meeting said that the communication strategy had totally failed.

Suggestions made by Prashant Kishor

Prashant Kishor’s presentation included 55 slides. Out of them, 18 were related to the party’s communication strategy and narrative build up, while 10 were about how to increase seats, besides the names of potential seats, which states are most promising, where the party is weak. The remaining slides were related to how the party needed to be strengthened immediately.

Prashant Kishor said that Congress should concentrate on 370 Lok Sabha seats and the rest should forge alliances. “Communication and social media strategy has failed and the narrative needs to be reworked and reset,” he said.

Congress is all set to hold its Chintan Shivir in Rajasthan next month.
