Delhi logged 965 fresh Covid cases in a day with a positivity rate of 4.71 per cent while one person died due to the infection, according to data shared by the city health department on Thursday.

A total of 20,480 tests were conducted in the city a day ago, the data showed.

Delhi had reported one death and 1,009 Covid cases on Wednesday, the maximum since February 10, with a positivity rate of 5.7 per cent.

On Tuesday, Delhi had reported 632 cases with a positivity rate of 4.42 per cent. A day before, the city reported 501 cases with a positivity rate of 7.72 per cent.

With the national capital seeing a spurt in COVID-19 cases in the past few days, the number of active cases has increased to 2,970 from 601 on April 11.

Russian customs service delays publication of import-export data, reports Reuters

  • Russia’s customs service, which usually discloses import and export data for the country’s most important products in the first ten days of each month, has delayed its publication, without giving a reason. Omicron sublineage BA.2.12 has been detected in a majority of the samples sequenced from Delhi in the first fortnight of April and it could be behind the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the city, sources said Thursday. Russian Central Bank to look at gradual key rate cut at upcoming meetings

  • The Russian central bank will assess a gradual key rate reduction at upcoming meetings, Governor Elvira Nabiullina said on Thursday.
  • The central bank’s emergency rate hike to 20% in late February helped stabilise the rouble and overcome a spike in inflation, Nabiullina said earlier, speaking at the lower house of parliament, the Duma.
  • Now, having cut the rate to 17% in April, the bank is ready for more monetary easing, she said ahead of the April 29 board meeting.

One killed, 13 injured in bus explosion in Turkey’s Bursa

A bus carrying prison guards exploded in the northwestern Turkish city of Bursa, leaving one person dead and 13 others injured, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Thursday. “As a result of the explosion that occurred yesterday in Bursa, 1 person was killed and 13 people were injured, one of them seriously injured,” Koca said on Twitter. According to the local governor, as cited by Turkish media, the blast was man-made, with the use of an improvised explosive device.

Indian national killed, seven injured in oxygen plant explosion in Nepal

An Indian national was killed and seven others were injured on Thursday in an explosion at an oxygen plant in an industrial area in Lalitpur district near Kathmandu. The explosion occurred at the Sagarmatha Oxygen Plant inside the Patan industrial estate on Thursday morning while workers were filling in the gas in a cylinder, police said. The explosion also destroyed the zinc roof of the oxygen plant and broke windows of adjacent buildings. In the explosion, one Indian national identified as Brij Kumar Mahato died while another Indian and six Nepalese nationals were injured, police said.
