LSG vs MI: KL Rahul hits his 4th IPL hundred, joins Virat Kohli in rare list

KL Rahul’s love affair with Mumbai Indians continued as the Lucknow Super Giants skipper hit a 103 not out in Match 37 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Rahul got his 2nd hundred of the ongoing season, both coming against Mumbai Indians in a span of 8 days.

Rahul hit 103 not out from just 62 balls,.smashing 4 sixes and 12 boundaries in another superlative show of power-hitting. It was the Lucknow captain’s 4th IPL hundred and 3rd against his favourite foes, Mumbai Indians.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul also became the only 2nd batter after Virat Kohli to score 2 hundreds against the same team in a season of the IPL. Virat Kohli had achieved the feat in 2016 when he got 2 of his 4 hundreds against now-defunct Gujarat Lions.

Despite Rahul’s getting to the three-figure score, Lucknow managed only 168 on the board as Mumbai Indians kept it tight in the powerplay and at the death. In fact, Rahul and Manish Pandey took their time to get going after Quinton de Kock fell early at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, Rahul cut loose after getting to his fifty. Despite losing partners at regular intervals, Rahul kept the scoreboard moving. Rahu’s late onslaught saw Lucknow collect 58 runs in the last 5 overs even as they were losing wickets at regular intervals.

The next best score for Lucknow was 22 from Manish Paney which came at a run-a-ball. Big-hittters Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya fell cheaply while Deepak Hooda departed for 10. Ayush Badoni hit a big one in the final over but MI conceded just 17 runs in their last overs after Rahul had taken apart Jaydev Unadkat.
