Elon Musk is about to buy Twitter if everything goes well. Ahead of becoming the head of the microblogging site officially, the Tesla CEO takes a dig at Twitter once again. Musk hinted that as Twitter head he wants all users to enjoy “free speech” on the platform. As per reports, Twitter will accept Musk’s buyout offer on Monday.
“I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means,” he tweeted.
In the past, Musk has questioned Twitter for censoring some voices, including former US President Donald Trump, several times. Trump was banned from the platform last year for violating Twitter’s policies and guidelines.
Since Musk has often talked about Twitter not adhering to “free speech”, one of the first changes could be seen in content moderation. Musk recently tweeted, “Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?” Around 70 per cent of 2 million respondents replied with NO.
With Musk becoming the Twitter head, we may also get the edit button very soon. The company said that it is working on the option and will first release for Blue subscribers, followed by a stable release. Musk may also actively work on removing spam accounts or spambots, which, as per him, is the “most annoying thing” on the platform.
Going forward, the Tesla CEO also wants to make Twitter a much more open-source platform. During the recent TED conference, Musk said that Twitter should be more open source as “there’s no sort of behind-the-scenes manipulation, either algorithmically or manually.”
