Italy orders mask wearing for some indoor venues until mid-June

Face masks will remain compulsory in Italy on public transport and in some indoor venues until June 15, the health minister said on Thursday, as one of the country’s hardest hit by Covid delayed an end to pandemic restrictions. Masks will still be required to access cinemas, theatres, indoor events and to enter hospitals, Health Minister Roberto Speranza said, adding that the government intends to be cautious in lifting the remaining measures.

Telangana on Thursday added 40 fresh cases to its Covid-19 tally, which rose to 7,91,946.

No new fatality due to the infectious disease was reported in the last 24 hours and the toll remained 4,111. Hyderabad reported the highest number of infections at 21.

Gujarat records 14 Covid-19 cases, no deaths

Gujarat recorded 14 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours but no pandemic-related deaths, the state health department said in a release on Thursday evening.It took the caseload in the state to 12,24,305, while death toll remained unchanged at 10,943. Twenty persons recovered during this period, taking the tally of recoveries to 12,13,263.

Six new cases in Chhattisgarh, no death; active tally at 30

Chhattisgarh on Thursday reported six new coronavirus positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 11,52,259, while the death toll remained unchanged at 14,034 as nobody succumbed to the infection during the day, an official said.

Punjab on Thursday reported 27 new Covid-19 cases, taking the infection tally to 7,59,538, according to the state’s medical bulletin.

Delhi reports 1490 new Covid-19 cases, 1070 recoveries, and 2 deaths in the last 24 hours

Tamil Nadu on Thursday saw 73 new Covid-19 infections, pushing the caseload to 34,53,829 while the death toll remained unchanged at 38,025 with nil fatalities being recorded in the last 24 hours, the Health Department said.

Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday recorded seven fresh Covid cases, taking the infection tally to 4,54,028 while no death due to disease was reported, officials said.

Total Covid vaccine doses administered in India crosses 188.62 crore, says govt

The total Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in India crossed 188.62 crore on Thursday, the Union Health Ministry said. Over 20 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Thursday till 7 pm, it said. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of final reports for the day by late in the night.

580 fresh Covid cases in Haryana; 473 from Gurugram alone

Gurugram in Haryana continues to record an upswing in Covid-19 cases with 473 more people being confirmed for the disease on Thursday. A total of 580 fresh infections were reported in the state in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra records 165 new coronavirus cases, 2 deaths; active tally at 961

With this, the state’s Covid-19 tally rose to 78,77,429, while the death toll increased to 1,47,840, the department said. On Wednesday, the state had recorded 186 cases, but zero fatality.

After recording more than 100 coronavirus cases for two straight days, Mumbai reported 90 new infections on Thursday, taking the overall tally to 10,59,635, but no fresh death linked to the disease was registered, the city civic body said.

Beijing orders schools closed in tightening of virus rules

Beijing is closing all city schools in a further tightening of Covid-19 restrictions, as China’s capital seeks to prevent a wider outbreak. The city of 21 million has already ordered three rounds of mass testing this week, with the third coming on Friday.

Andhra Pradesh on Thursday added five fresh cases to its Covid-19 tally, which is 23,19,675 now.
