Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad missed out on the chance to score his second IPL hundred on Sunday as he got out on 99 in the match against SunRisers Hyderabad at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Sunday.
Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 635 runs in 2021 to win the Orange Cap as Chennai Super Kings became IPL champions for the fourth time. He debuted in 2020 and, after an ordinary start, finished the season with three half-centuries.
In 2022, Ruturaj Gaikwad had a poor start to the campaign with scores of 0, 1, 1, 16 and 17 before hitting 73 against Gujarat Titans. Gaikwad was then dismissed for a duck against Mumbai Indians before MS Dhoni saved the defending champions with a sterling knock.
At the Wankhede, Ruturaj Gaikwad looked good but fell for 30 against Punjab Kings.
On Sunday, as MS Dhoni returned to lead CSK once again after Ravindra Jadeja decided to hand him back the responsibility, Ruturaj Gaikwad was unstoppable in a century partnership with Devon Conway for the opening wicket.
Devon Conway, who got married recently, was happy to watch Ruturaj Gaikwad smash it all around the park against the most fearsome pace bowling attack in IPL 2022.
SRH boasted of the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, T Natarajan and Umran Malik, but Ruturaj Gaikwad was unfazed.
Umran Malik troubled some of the best batters in the tournament with his pace and accuracy, but Gaikwad went after the fast bowlers with complete disdain. At the end of his three overs, Umran Malik had conceded 40 runs as Gaikwad continued to breathe fire with the bat.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, 25, is quickly becoming the most reliable batter for Chennai Super Kings. In 2020, he finished with 204 runs from 6 matches before a stunning season next year.
IPL 2022 did not look promising for Ruturaj Gaikwad, but he has turned it around with two sensational innings in recent matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad made his debut for India in T20 Internationals last year and has featured in 3 matches so far for the country.
