Two new cases in Chhattisgarh, no fresh fatality, active tally now 37
Chhattisgarh on Thursday reported two new coronavirus positive cases, taking the state’s tally to 11,52,296, while the death toll remained unchanged at 14,034 as no fatality was reported during the day, an official said. The case positivity rate of the state stood at 0.05 per cent, he said.

The researchers from the University of Michigan (U-M) in the US collected air and surface samples during an environmental surveillance programme from August 2020 until April 2021 on their campus. The study, published last week in the Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology, looked at public spaces, including classrooms, rehearsal rooms, cafeterias, buses, gyms, student activity buildings, and ventilation and air ducts.

Daily corona infections again go over 50 in TN
On April 29, Tamil Nadu reported 54 new cases. Since then, it had been below 50 with 37 infections recorded yesterday. However, the daily Covid infections in TN surged past the 50-mark once again today, with 58 people testing positive, including two returnees from UAE and New Delhi respectively, aggregating to 34,54,153.
Mumbai records highest daily rise since February
Mumbai recorded 130 new cases, the highest daily rise since February. It took the tally of infections recorded in India’s financial capital so far to 10,60,317. No pandemic-related death was recorded in Mumbai today.
Maha records 233 Covid cases, no deaths
Maharashtra recorded 233 new coronavirus infections and zero pandemic-related deaths, the state health department said. Of 233 new cases, Mumbai alone accounted for 130. Maharashtra now has 1,109 active coronavirus patients. The state’s Covid-19 case tally rose to 78,78,596, while death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,845.

UK health service rolls out arthritis drug Baricitinib to treat Covid
A trial carried out through the NHS and University of Oxford found that 13 per cent fewer severely ill patients died of COVID-19 when treated with Baricitinib compared to existing treatment options. Typically used to treat arthritis to reduce pain and inflammation, the NHS said Baricitinib can now be given to hospitalised COVID patients in addition to current treatments.
J&K logs seven fresh Covid cases
Jammu and Kashmir reported seven new corona cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally in the union territory to 4,54,079. All the seven cases were reported from Jammu district. There are 60 active cases of the disease in J&K currently.
No fresh cases, fatalities in Puducherry
The overall caseload remained at 1,65,794, a senior official of Department of Health G Sriramulu said in a release here. As many as 181 samples were tested during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Thursday.
