Coronavirus in India LIVE updates: Maharashtra reports over 1,000 new Covid cases for second consecutive day

West Bengal reports 42 new Covid-19 cases, zero daily deaths. Infection tally rises to 20,19,543, death toll stands at 21,204. The state now has 378 active cases of the disease

Witnessing a surge in new cases, the State on June 1 reported 139 daily infections, while on June 2, 145 cases were reported.

As many as 68 people recovered in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 34,17,090, leaving 756 active cases.

Tamil Nadu on Friday saw over 100 cases for the third consecutive day with 113 people testing COVID-19 positive in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 34,55,871, the Health Department said.

Goa on Friday recorded 50 new coronavirus cases that raised the tally of infections to 2,45,946, an official from the state health department said. The coastal state has witnessed a rise in infections over the last two days after recording cases in single digit in the entire month of May.

Delhi reports 345 new Covid cases, 389 recoveries and 0 deaths in the last 24 hours. Active cases reach 1,446.

Centre writes to 5 states witnessing rise in Covid cases

After nearly three months, the daily tally of Covid-19 cases in India crossed the 4,000-mark, as the country logged 4,041 infections in the last 24 hours on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Delhi high court has directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to take strict action against passengers violating mask norms in the airports.

The states have been instructed to monitor emerging clusters, maintain adequate number of tests, and send samples from infected individuals for genome sequencing.

The states that the Centre believes possibly have a localised spread of the infection include Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has asked five states witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases to closely monitor emerging clusters.

Asymptomatic cases in the city were unchanged at eight versus a day earlier.

China’s capital Beijing reported eight new symptomatic cases, versus 11 a day earlier, and seven new asymptomatic cases versus three the previous day, according to the local government.

As of June 2, mainland China had confirmed 224,208 cases with symptoms

Pakistan reports 36 new COVID cases, tally reaches 1,530,556
