Israeli Series Fauda Is Getting Adapted Into An Indian TV Show Called Tanaav

A further addition to international shows being adapted in the Indian context, the critically-acclaimed Israeli series Fauda is set to receive the Indian treatment. Called Tanaav, the 12-episode show will be helmed by Sudhir Mishra

Fauda, which was created by Avi Issacharoff and Lior Raz, who also stars in the series, is set against the backdrop of the Israel-Palestine conflict. First premiered in 2015, the series follows Doron, a commander in the Mista’arvim unit (Mossad) who’s forced to come back from retirement to combat a looming threat.

Its Indian adaptation, Tanaav will be set in 2017 Kashir and star the likes of Arbaaz Khan, Ekta Kaul, Manav Vij, Arslan Goni and Sumit Kaul. While we’re yet to get a closer look at the show, here’s what the official synopsis reads –

“Set against the backdrop of Kashmir in the year 2017, Tanaav tells the story of a Special Covert Ops Unit, their bravery and courage. Delving into the human drama behind the ideologies, dealing with complex emotions and flawed characters, all of whom share the same feelings of love, loss, betrayal and revenge, Tanaav is a socio-political action drama with family at its core.”

When asked about what inspired him to take up the project, creator Sudhir Mishra, who’s made movies like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Dharavi and Chameli, said “Applause Entertainment discovers some of the best International stories to be reimagined and adapted for the Indian audience. As a filmmaker, Tanaav allowed me to explore a variety of characters and delve deep into their psyche. It is a true Indian story weaved into a tightly-knit action drama that highlights human emotions and the dilemmas they face. Cannot wait for the audience to binge-watch Tanaav, soon to launch on SonyLIV.”

Giving his seal of approval, Fauda’s co-creator Avi Issacharoff also released a statement which read, “We are very happy and proud to hear about Tanaav, the Indian version of Fauda. It’s a true honour for us to learn how Fauda succeeded to touch the hearts of so many people from all over the world, and especially in India.”

The series is yet to receive a release date, although we do know it’ll be streaming exclusively on SonyLIV.
