India Probes Suspected Gas Leak at Factory That Supplies Apparel Brands

NEW DELHI—Authorities in a southern Indian state are investigating safety conditions at a factory in an apparel manufacturing hub that supplies clothes to global clothing brands after more than 100 workers were hospitalized due to a suspected gas leak.

Workplace safety remains a pressing concern in India, labor rights activists say, as India seeks to become a manufacturing power, a national priority under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” campaign.
