The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been ruling Gujarat for 27 years and has become arrogant, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said. Arvind Kejriwal is on a two-day visit to Gujarat from Saturday as part of his campaign ahead of the Assembly polls likely to be held in December this year.
“The BJP is ruling Gujarat for 27 years, they have become arrogant. They don’t have anything to do with people. I being Delhi CM, met the victims of the ‘Lattha’ (spurious liquor) incident, while the CM didn’t even go to meet them. Now there’s an alternative,” Arvind Kejriwal was quoted by ANI as saying.
Hitting out at the BJP government, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo said, “The businessmen of Gujarat are intimidated by the government not to go to Kejriwal’s rally. We have achieved a lot in 75 years, but time has come to think that there are many other countries which have overtaken us. Why are we left behind? What is lacking in us?”
“The situation of politics in our country has detoriated. The country was deliberately kept behind for 70 years. In Gujarat, traders are intimidated by GST officers. I request the BJP not to practice politics of intimidation,” Delhi CM said.
“I want to make businessmen participants in the politics of development. Neither did we raid any BJP businessmen in Delhi nor did we threaten them. We have won their hearts. Although there is a liquor ban in Gujarat, liquor is available very comfortably and is also delivered at home.
“There’s a lot of buzz about ‘free revdi’ these days. We’ve transformed Delhi govt schools. Hundreds of students have cleared IIT and NEET exams this year. Students speak impeccable English. Am I doing wrong by providing free education?,” he asked, in an alleged attack on PM Modi’s revdi culture remark.
FIVE GUARANTEES TO TRADERS
Arvind Kejriwal also announced five guarantees to the traders of Gujarat. Kejriwal held a town hall meeting with traders and shopkeepers of Jamnagar city to discuss their issues.
“AAP will end the atmosphere of fear and traders would be free to attend political meetings of any party they belong to. We will give respect to businessmen in the state, which was not given by previous governments. An atmosphere has been created where businessmen are thieves but they work very hard,” Arvind Kejriwal said.
“We will stop raids on traders. Today, the revenue of Delhi is Rs 75,000 crores. There are doorsteps and delivery services available if you want to get your work done in Delhi. Pending refunds will be given to traders. Traders will work in partnership with the government. I have come here to make you partners for the development of Gujarat,” he said.
