NC president Farooq Abdullah tests positive for Covid again

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has tested positive for Covid-19, the party said here on Saturday. The 85-year-old MP from Srinagar is recovering well and has self-isolated at home. “Dr Farooq Abdullah tested positive for Covid 19 a couple of days ago, with mild symptoms. He’s recovering well and his doctors have advised rest while he recovers,” the party wrote on Twitter. Abdullah had first tested positive in April last year. He was hospitalised then for some days on the advice of doctors for better care.

Telangana: 440 new Covid-19 cases

Telangana on Saturday saw a dip in new Covid-19 cases with 440 being reported, taking the tally to 8,28,911 so far. Hyderabad district recorded the highest with 195.A Health Department bulletin said 652 people recuperated from the infection and the cumulative number of recoveries till date was 8,21,249.

Karnataka reported 1,329 fresh Covid-19 cases and five deaths, taking the total infections and fatalities in the state to 40,29,446 and 40,144 respectively.

Mizoram logs 139 new Covid-19 cases

Mizoram reported 139 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, 87 less than the previous day, pushing the tally to 2,35,065, a health department official said. The Covid-19 death toll rose to 717 as a 21-year-old man from Siaha succumbed to the infection on Saturday evening, he said.

LNJP study finds Omicron sub-variant BA 2.75 is the dominant strain in Delhi

Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital Medical Director Dr Suresh Kumar on Saturday said that Omicron sub-variant BA 2.75 is the dominant variant in Delhi having been found in a majority of cases. “We did a study where we wanted to know which sub-variant is having the highest transmission. We analysed data from 90 samples in August and found that more than half of the patients were infected with BA 2.75. It is the leading cause of transmission and it spreads faster,” Dr Kumar told ANI.

12 fresh Covid-19 cases in Ladakh

Ladakh on Saturday recorded 12 fresh Covid-19 cases that pushed its infection tally to 29,050, officials said. All the fresh cases were reported from Leh, they said.So far, 228 people have succumbed to Covid-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 168 deaths were reported from Leh and 60 from Kargil, according to the officials.

403 new Covid cases in Odisha

Odisha’s Covid-19 tally rose to 13,22,183 on Saturday as 403 more people, including 48 children, tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. The Covid-19 death toll remained at 9,154 as there was no new death. Fifty-three other patients have died due to comorbidities so far, the health department said.

Amid an upward trend in Covid cases, the Punjab govt’s Home Affairs department issues an advisory to ensure “wearing of appropriate masks in all educational institutions, govt & private offices, indoor & outdoor gatherings, malls, public places, etcetera.”

Assam reports 152 new Covid cases, 2 deaths

Assam reported 152 new Covid-19 cases and two more deaths in the last 24 hours, a National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, bulletin said on Saturday. One death each was reported from Jorhat and Sivasagar, pushing the toll to 6,677. Another 1,347 positive patients have died of other underlying co-morbidities. The current active Covid-19 positive caseload in the state is 3,359, a decrease by 40 against that of the previous day. The overall Covid positive cases in the state has increased to 7,42,678, it said
