‘Hisaab dena padega’: Ex-NCB officer Sameer Wankhede gets death threat on Twitter

Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede allegedly received threats to his life on social media.

A Twitter handle by the name ‘Aman’ messaged Sameer Wankhede on August 14. In the message, the person wrote, “Tumko pata hai tumne kya kiya hai, iska hisaab tumko dena padega (You know what you have done, and you will have to pay for it).”

Another message said, “Tumko khatam kar denge (You will be done in).”

Following this, Sameer Wankhede approached Goregaon police and they are in the process of registering an FIR. Wankhede’s statement was recorded yesterday.

The account had zero followers and is suspected to have been created for the purpose of issuing threats to Wankhede, police sources said.

Wankhede, the former zonal director of the NCB’s Mumbai office, had come into the limelight following the anti-drugs agency’s high-profile raids in October 2021 on a Mumbai cruise after which the agency arrested actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan and 19 others, and claimed to have also seized some narcotics.

Amid allegations of corruption against Sameer Wankhede, the case was transferred from the Mumbai zone to the central team of the NCB. Wankhede was removed from the case and a vigilance probe was initiated against him. The NCB had later given a clean chit to Aryan Khan.

While Wankhede was heading the Mumbai cruise drugs case investigation, then Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik had levelled several allegations against him, including that of forging his caste certificate.

Malik had also termed the 2021 cruise raid, which had led to Aryan Khan staying in custody for around a month, “fake”. He also accused Wankhede of working for the BJP.

An IRS officer, Wankhede was deputed to the NCB after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June 2020, when names of several Bollywood celebrities had cropped up during investigations into a possible drugs angle.

During his tenure, several high profile celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Rakulpreet Singh were questioned in connection with allegations of a drug nexus in Bollywood.
