Ex-Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy tests positive for Covid-19
Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday said he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is under home isolation. “Following symptoms of light fever & body pain, I underwent Covid test. The results have come positive. Doctors have advice me for home isolation & treatment,” the JD(S) second-in-command tweeted. He added that as per doctor’s advice, he will undergo treatment at home for next 10 days.

Face mask mandate back in Tripura amid uptick in Covid-19 cases
The Tripura government has decided to reimpose the face mask mandate for people at public places in the wake of the surge in the Covid-19 cases, a senior official said on Monday. The state registered 131 new infections since July 4, with the positivity rate swelling from 1.74 per cent to 7.12 per cent over the course of six days. State Surveillance Officer (SSO), Deep Debbarma, told reporters on Monday, “The state-level Covid task force held a meeting during the day to review the situation, following which it was decided that masks will be mandatory for people stepping out of homes.”
US secures 3.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine by Novavax
The US announced on Monday that it has secured 3.2 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine by Novavax, which has partnered with the Serum Institute of India, with India’s envoy in the US describing it as Indo-US “synergies in healthcare at work.” The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in collaboration with the Department of Defence (DOD), announced on Monday that it has secured 3.2 million doses of Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine.
Moderna to advance two vaccine candidates against Omicron variants
Moderna Inc said on Monday it was advancing two vaccine candidates for the fall, one designed against the BA.1 variant of Omicron and another against the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants. This has been done based on different market preferences for vaccines against Omicron subvariants, the company said.

Delhi records 280 new Covid-19 cases, positivity rate 4.21%
Delhi on Monday reported 280 fresh Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 4.21 per cent, according to health department data. No new deaths were logged. With the fresh infections and fatalities, Delhi’s Covid-19 caseload climbed to 19,41,015 and the death toll stood at 26,284, the health department bulletin said. The fresh cases came out of 6,645 tests conducted the previous day, it said
Himachal Pradesh reports 244 Covid-19 cases, one fatality. Infection tally rises to 2,87,779, death toll 4,125. There are 1,202 active cases of the disease in the state.

Puducherry logs 54 new Covid-19 cases
Puducherry on Monday reported 54 new coronavirus cases, pushing the overall tally to 1,67,714, a senior official of the Department of Health said. Director of Health Sriramulu in a bulletin said the 54 fresh cases surfaced during examination of 804 samples in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM today. He said the active cases were 843 which comprised nine patients in hospitals and the remaining 834 in home quarantine.

70-year-old woman with comorbidities dies of Covid-19 in Indore
A 70-year-old woman has succumbed to the coronavirus infection in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, a health official said on Monday. The woman was admitted in hospital with a serious anemic condition and later contracted coronavirus, leading to her death on Sunday, Covid-19 nodal officer Dr Amit Malakar said. “She was suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and other ailments. She had taken both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine,” Malakar added.
Ladakh has reported nine fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday, taking the overall infection tally of the union territory to 28,570, officials said. (PTI)

South Korea reports 12,693 new Covid-19 cases
South Korea reported 12,693 new Covid-19 cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 18,524,538, the health authorities said Monday. The daily caseload was down from 20,410 the previous day, but it was far higher than the 6,249 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA). For the past week, the daily average number of confirmed cases was 18,388.

Covid positivity rate touches 5% in Bengaluru
The Covid positivity rate touched 5 per cent in Bengaluru after 927 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Sunday.The state reported 989 new Covid cases in the period against 802 discharges. The total active cases in the state rose to 6,693. In Bengaluru 81 persons are hospitalised among which 71 are in general ward, seven in the ICU, two are in HDU and one patient was on ventilator support.
