Did you know that Black Adam was only supposed to appear as the primary antagonist in the Shazam movie? But well, the makers decided to dedicate a standalone film to the character much later, given Dwayne Johnson’s mammoth star power. The decision seems to be right and the few looks from the film prove the same. In fact, the new trailer adds much more weight to what we just said.
In the new clip, the audience meets the ‘heroes’ of this universe, the Justice Society, who want to bring our antagonist down. The official synopsis explains, ”Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.”
We get introduced to new stills of Hawkman played by Aldis Hodge, Dr. Fate’s character played by Pierce Brosnan, and more. They are joined by Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna, Bodhi Sabongui as Amon, Viola Davis as Amanda Walle, and Marwan Kenzari as Ishmael.
Talking about his role previously, Johnson revealed, “I am so excited to play Black Adam. So excited, so pumped up. Black Adam has been with me for over ten years now and that gives you an idea of how passionate I am with this project, and how passionate our Seven Bucks is about this project. Warner Brothers, New Line Cinema, DC, have been so incredibly supportive over the years. This has been over 10 years. In 2008, we started talking about this, so it has required patience by all of us as partners and I am a much different man and an actor than I was 10 years ago.” Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collett-Serra and is scheduled to release on October 21.”
