Delhi Police on Friday filed an affidavit at the Delhi High Court opposing Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s plea to quash the cases lodged against him. The police also opposed Zubair’s plea to release his mobile and laptop that were seized by the authorities.

The electronic equipments that were seized from Zubair have already been deposited at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini, Delhi. The data recovered from these devices will be analysed with respect to his 2018 tweet for which he faced seven FIRs.

The police are also looking into other tweets which are of a similar nature to the 2018 one.

Zubair had walked out of Tihar jail — where he was lodged for 24 days — on July 20 after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in all cases against him. The top court had directed that all FIRs against Zubair should be transferred to the Delhi Police Special Cell, which is probing the case related to the 2018 objectionable tweet.
