Another major antiques haul in Tamil Nadu; 7 idols seized

in Tamil Nadu and dug up seven priceless antique


buried in the backyard, on Saturday.

The seven antique metal idols of gods and goddesses and artefacts are suspected to have been stolen from temples in Tamil Nadu several years ago.

The shop owner, K Ramachandran, 42, did not possess any documents authorising the legal custody of these antique idols.

This is the second major


haul in the Auroville vicinity in five days. On September 13, idol wing seized 20 antique artefacts from the residence of a French national in Auroville, identified as Dana Auro. Saturday’s drama began when the team seized a document of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) which declared that an idol of Ardhanareeswarar produced by the shop on September 6 in 2016 is suspected to be an antique one.
