Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel To Stream On Amazon Prime Video

We have some good news and bad news. The good news is after 2017’s Blade Runner 2049, Amazon Prime Video is making a sequel series titled Blade Runner 2099. The bad news is neither Ryan Gosling nor Denis Villeneuve is attached to it. According to reports, Ridley Scott who directed the first movie is helming the project.

Many might remember, that Scott’s 1982 movie, which was adapted from Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? was a box-office failure. It only developed a cult following after multiple cuts were released in the following decades.

This isn’t the first time the video streaming service has adapted a big movie franchise and turned it into a series, the recent example of this being the latest Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power prequel. What now remains to be seen is whether Bezos will show the same love for the iconic franchise as he did with the Tolkien series.

As far as plot details are concerned, there aren’t any. If you’ve seen the 2017 movie, the return of Ryan Gosling seems unlikely. Also considering it’s based around 50 years in the future, many of the recurring cast may not be called back. What fans are worried about though, is Scott’s recent track record which has been less than impressive to put it politely.

However, considering how rich the original source material is, paired with Amazon’s endless budget, we might just get the best Blade Runner adaptation put to screen. We’re still quite away before seeing anything to go in production, including the announcement of the new cast members. Until then, here’s how the internet has taken to the news.
