Machine, books, and now furniture stolen from Madrasa Alia recovered from university run by Azam Khan’s trust

Many secrets are tumbling out from the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur, which is run by a trust headed by former Uttar Pradesh Cabinet minister and Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan.

The interrogation of Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam Khan’s two friends led police to the medical college building of Jauhar University, where they broke the walls and recovered furniture stolen from Madrasa Alia.

An FIR about the theft of the stolen furniture was registered years ago. Prinicipal of Madrasa Alia Zubair Ahmed Khan attested that the furniture belonged to the institution.

WHAT LED POLICE TO JAUHAR UNIVERSITY?

Rampur police arrested two close friends of MLA Abdullah Azam Khan–Salim and Anwar–four days ago on charges of gambling.

During interrogation, both Salim and Anwar revealed various items that have been stolen and hidden in the university premises.

On the first day, a valuable cleaning machine belonging to the Rampur municipality was recovered from the premises of Jauhar University.

Then the police recovered valuable books hidden in the shaft made for the lift in the campus building. The books were stolen from Madrasa Alia library and an FIR was lodged in 2019. The Madrasa Alia library was established in 1774 by the Nawab of Rampur and is also known as Rajkiya Oriental College.

On further interrogation, the two revealed about the furniture stolen from the Madrasa Alia. Rampur Police broke the walls of the medical college building of the university and found the furniture hidden there.

CLOSE TO 10,000 VALUABLE BOOKS STOLEN

Rampur Police said in 2019, a case of theft was registered. Seven people accused of stealing the books were sent to jail and 2,500 books were recovered from them.

The interrogation of Salim and Anwar led the police to the 7,000 books found hidden in the lift shaft of the university.

Police also said that Salim and Anwar confessed that the books were stolen on the instructions of the university administration and hidden in the lift shaft of the university.

Rampur Police added that action will be taken against all the staff employed at the university at the time, who perpetrated the crime.
