Encounter underway in J&K’s Shopian, two terrorists trapped

Security forces have killed an LeT terrorist during an ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian area.

This is the third encounter in the valley ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Kashmir visit.

The security forces have launched cordon and search operations in the Baskuchan Imamsahib area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian. The security personnel killed a terrorist linked with the terror outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and trapped two others during the ongoing encounter so far.

The killed terrorist has been identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora in Shopian’s Baskuchan.

A top police official said, “Incriminating materials and, arms, and ammunitions, including AK rifle, have been recovered. He was involved in several terror crimes and had recently escaped from an encounter.”

Divulging information about the encounter, the Kashmir Zone Police took to Twitter and wrote, “Encounter has started at Baskuchan area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”

The encounters broke out after police and security forces received a specific input about the presence of terrorists in those areas. This is the third encounter in the valley ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Kashmir visit.

On Friday, Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Baramulla, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, said terrorists who came to disrupt the ongoing Army Rally in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district were killed in an encounter. Two encounters broke out between security forces and militants in Shopian and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Friday. Both the terrorists were linked with proscribed terror outfit JeM, ADGP Kashmir police said.
