Chandigarh,UPDATED: Dec 10, 2022 12:41 IST

A police station in Punjab’s Tarn Taran was reportedly hit by a rocket.

By Kamaljit Kaur Sandhu: A rocket-propelled grenade was fired at a police station in Sarhali in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district at around 1 am on Saturday. There was no loss of life and the building largely remained unaffected as the rocket rebounded after hitting the outer pillar of the police station.

Sarhali is the native place of a notorious gangster, Harvinder Singh alias Rinda, who was suspected of having died in Pakistan a few days back.

According to the sources, the rocket was powerful but could not damage the station as it rebounded. DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav and forensic teams are present at the police station.

The attack is suspected to be carried out by Khalistan-backed terrorists under the patronage of the Pakistani intelligence unit, ISI. The strike was presumably a response by the ISI to the death of Harvinder Singh Rinda to preserve his terror in the region.

Harvinder Singh Rinda, a gangster-turned-Khalistani terrorist, was reportedly shot in Pakistan. Gangster group Davinder Bambiha claimed responsibility for the murder.

Recently, Rinda was named as mastermind of the RPG attack on Punjab Police intelligence office in Mohali in May. His name had also popped up in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder. Rinda was involved in various terror cases and was a member of the banned Khalistani outfit Babbar Khalsa International.

However, sources in the state police have claimed that Harwinder Singh Rinda was admitted to a hospital in Lahore for 15 days due to kidney failure and he died there.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa, hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing the party of spreading anarchy in Punjab.

“Like the Gandhi family, Kejriwal also wants to usurp the country’s power by spreading anarchy in Punjab. A terrorist attack on Tarn Taran police station is proof of the failure of the AAP’s state security. Being a puppet CM of Kejriwal Bhagwant Mann ji is putting the security of the whole country at risk,” wrote the BJP leader.

On the other hand, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, while speaking on Agenda Aajtak, said an order was issued to the DGP for a thorough probe and that an early investigation is going on, adding, it was too early to comment on the matter.

“Sukhbir Badal is responsible for the Gansgter Raj (gangster rule) in Punjab. He and the Congress party shielded gangsters in the state,” said the Punjab CM. He further stated that Home Minister Amit Shah should release more funds for the updation of the Punjab police.
