Does the same ‘connected’ pitch but a larger 55-inch 4K display help make a stronger case for the OnePlus TV?
Earlier this year we checked out OnePlus’ 4K UHD TV – the TV50 Y1S Pro and were impressed with its design aesthetic and overall experience. OnePlus takes it’s Y Series experience to the next level with a bigger and bolder screen. The new Y Series 55 Y1S Pro
makes the same ‘connected’ pitch with a larger 55-inch 4K display. We’ve said this before, consumers have multiple screen choices now. You could switch to a pure-play monitor that brings the action to your desk or go with an AIO that is redefining our work + play experience. We also have a greater choice of home projectors than ever before. All this has created question marks around the conventional TV as we know it. The good thing is that these TVs are smarter than ever before.
It’s all about the ecosystem
It’s not just TVs, we’re seeing this across product lines. Brands like Samsung or OnePlus that are present across multiple product categories are leveraging the breadth of their portfolios to offer a more seamless experience with easy inter-operability between multiple devices. It’s also a smart ploy to build brand loyalty. It’s why the 55 Y1S Pro is easy to recommend for OnePlus users. You’ll see an instant prompt when you pull any of your OnePlus buds out of the case. It’s the same if you have a OnePlus smartwatch, you can turn it on and off in a single click.
Smart TVs are no longer just about internet connectivity. It’s about how seamlessly they can integrate into your lifestyle. One of our favourite features is the Smart Sleep Control feature, that detects if you’ve fallen asleep and automatically switches the TV off. We also dig the ‘One Click Cleanup’ feature on the OnePlus Connect app that allows you to close all the applications running in the background. It also ensures that once you are done using the app on your TV, it does not continue running in the background. If you’re continuing to work from home, you will also appreciate the seamless Google Duo Support.
The Y Series TVs stick with a familiar OnePlus design aesthetic that looks both minimalist and premium. The 55-inch version stays in the same zone with the same signature, bezel-less design for an edge-to-edge screening experience. It won’t look out of place in a living room full of artefacts. I set this up on the strong base stand instead of a wall-mounted option, the stand is both elegant and sturdy.
OnePlus scores with the key feature that matters – picture quality. You get a 4K UHD Display with 1 bullion colours. The 55 Y1S Pro delivers 10-bit colour depth and is enhanced with OnePlus’ advanced Gamma Engine, which OnePlus claims smart tunes the visuals to provide ultra-clear content with dynamic contrast and vibrant colour. The Ultra HD display comes with HDR10+, HDR10, as well as HLG format support. Just like its 50-inch sibling, it punches above its weight. We checked out a whole bunch of Content including HD Content on Netflix and live action from Football World Cup that benefited from OnePlus’ MEMC
technology feature. This enhances fast-moving scenes for smoother, realistic action. The 24W Speakers are decent but not exceptional.
The OnePlus TV 55 Y1S Pro is easy to recommend for OnePlus users and also for consumers seeking useful smarts and solid picture quality at an affordable price point.
The OnePlus TV Y Series 55 Y1S Pro costs Rs 39,999. There’s an instant cashback of Rs 3,000 for ICICI Bank customers.
